2013 NFL Combine: Kent State's Brian Winters misses Saturday's drills
Kent State offensive lineman Brian Winters, a Hudson High School product, didn’t participate in NFL Scouting Combine drills Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium, likely forced to pull out because of an injury.
No individuals times were listed for Winters on NFL.com’s combine tracker page. Winters could not immediately be reached for comment Saturday.
Winters stopped after nine repetitions on the 225-pound bench press Friday because of what he later said was a cramp in his pectoral. Gil Brandt, the former Dallas Cowboys player personnel man now with NFL.com, said he spotted Winters Friday with a big wrap on his chest.
“I had to stop because I cramped on my pec right here,” Winters told the Beacon Journal Firday as he pointed to the left side of his chest. “So I’m going to redo it at [Kent State’s] pro day [March 6]. I’m fine.”
Two other players were injured during the bench press Friday. Rutgers tight end D.C. Jefferson’s was reportedly taken to an Indianapolis hospital and his agent told USA Today that he might have suffered a torn pectoral. USC center Khaled Holmes suffered a strained pec, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS.
NFLDraftScout.com projects Winters as a third- or fourth-round pick in the April 25-27 draft. Winters played tackle at Kent State, but was moved to left guard at the Senior Bowl. He was only the second KSU player invited to that game in Mobile, Ala.
