Syracuse University quarterback Ryan Nassib is scheduled to conduct a private workout for the Browns on Thursday, a league source confirmed today for the Beacon Journal.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the workout this afternoon. projects Nassib as a second-round pick in the draft, which runs April 25-27. The Browns don’t have a second-round selection but could acquire one in a trade-down scenario.

The 6-foot-2, 227-pound Nassib started every game for Syracuse during the past three seasons. Last season as a senior, he completed 294-of-471 passes for 3,749 yards and 26 touchdowns with 10 interceptions.

Nassib played for former Orange coach Doug Marrone, who’s now in charge of the Buffalo Bills, and Pro Football Weekly’s draft preview describes him as “one of the most pro-ready passers in the class.”

The Browns have the sixth overall pick in this year’s draft. However, Browns CEO Joe Banner has repeatedly insisted he doesn’t expect the team to pick a quarterback in the first round.

Still, the Browns are studying several quarterback prospects, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they drafted one at some point. The Browns also will work out West Virginia’s Geno Smith, Florida State’s EJ Manuel and host Arizona’s Matt Scott for a pre-draft visit.
