2013 NFL Scouting Combine: Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland says he would like to re-sign QB Matt Moore

Miami Dolphins quarterback Matt Moore warms before a NFL preseason football game against the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte, N.C., Friday, Aug. 17, 2012. Moore lost out on the starting quarterback job to rookie Ryan Tannehill.

Miami Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland said he would like to re-sign backup quarterback Matt Moore, who is scheduled to become a free agent March 12 and could receive interest from the Browns.

“There’s a lot of reasons why you want Matt back on the football team,” Ireland said today at the NFL Scouting Combine. “Matt’s been an outstanding teammate, a good mentor for [starting quarterback] Ryan [Tannehill]. … So there’s a lot of [reasons] why you would want him back on the football team.

“Like every free agent we’ve talked about, there’s a process in place. They’re all great character guys, and it’s a business decision. We have some tough decisions to make. I wish I could have them all back. I’m going to be disappointed and maybe possibly one of those guys will be disappointed when it doesn’t get done.”

Moore, 28, will test free agency and Browns offensive coordinator Norv Turner is a big fan of him, the Miami Herald reported this week. Two years ago, Moore went 6-6 as a starter before Tannehill, the eighth overall pick in the 2012 draft, replaced him in the lineup.

Moore, though, hasn’t ruled out re-signing with the Dolphins, according to the Miami Herald.
