Shaun Rogers at wide receiver? Browns defensive lineman has some fun

Defensive lineman Shaun Rogers put on a clinic Saturday after the Browns' second training camp practice of the day. His clinic, however, had nothing to do with playing in the trenches. Instead, the big man proved he has some nice hands.

Rogers, who's listed as 6-foot-4, 350 pounds, caught several hard passes that were shot out of a JUGS machine. He even caught some with one hand while kneeling on the ground (see photo below).

Although there are plenty of players who will vie for carries this season, at this point there are really just two top contenders to become the Browns' featured running back. They are rookie Montario Hardesty and veteran Jerome Harrison.

Browns Pro Bowl kick returner Josh Cribbs is featured in a Cleveland artist's illustrated Browns 2010 season schedule titled, "No Weapon Formed Against Me Shall Prosper." The artist is Van Monroe, and his work can be found at vanmonroe.com. Check out his Cribbs piece below.

Also, Cribbs now has his own fathead, and his video-game character has been featured in commercials for the new Madden NFL 11.

Browns rookie Joe Haden trying to sign before Saturday

Browns rookie cornerback Joe Haden, the seventh overall pick in this year's draft, doesn't want to miss any action when the team's first full-squad practice of training camp is held Saturday in Berea.

On Wednesday, Haden posted the following message on Twitter: "Headed 2 clevelad in the morning. Trying 2 sign before sat! I wana get goin!"

Browns President Mike Holmgren discusses NFL's new warning about concussions

Browns President Mike Holmgren has not yet seen the new posters about concussions that the NFL will require teams to hang in their locker rooms, but he said it's a vital message. The posters serve as evidence that the NFL is alerting players about the dangers of concussions with a greater sense of urgency than ever before.

Polls: Who will start on the right side of the Browns' offensive line?

NFL posting warnings about concussions in locker rooms

In its effort to raise awareness about concussions, the NFL is producing new posters to warn players about the dangers of head injuries. The new posters will be hung in all NFL locker rooms. The New York Times first reported the story.

Montario Hardesty, Browns agree to terms

Rookie running back Montario Hardesty and the Browns have agreed to terms of a four-year deal, the team announced Monday.

A league source told the Beacon Journal that Hardesty's deal is for four years and worth a maximum of $3.37 million, including $1.57 million guaranteed and a $1 million signing bonus.

This group definitely has a new look this season. Benjamin Watson is a proven veteran whom the Browns acquired via free agency this offseason. Evan Moore is an exciting, young player who emerged late last season and appears to have tons of potential. Robert Royal returns after starting 11 games for the Browns in 2009. And the team also signed Alex Smith in the offseason.

Former Browns executive Jeremy Green on suicide watch

More disturbing details about Jeremy Green's case have been released.

Green, the son of former NFL coach Dennis Green, was arrested earlier this month on a child pornography charge in Connecticut. Now he's being held at Garner Correctional Institution in Newtown, Conn., where he's on suicide watch. His bond has been set at $750,000. Green will face his next court appearance on Aug. 31.

Browns formally announce signings of Colt McCoy, Shawn Lauvao

The Browns signed quarterback Colt McCoy, pictured above, and offensive lineman Shawn Lauvao to multiyear contracts Friday, the team announced.

McCoy, who set an NCAA record with 45 career wins as a starting quarterback for the University of Texas, was the Browns' first third-round choice (85th overall) of this year's draft. The Browns chose him with a pick acquired from the Oakland Raiders in exchange for Kamerion Wimbley. ESPN.com reported Thursday that McCoy agreed to a four-year deal worth as much as $5 million.

Browns, rookie quarterback Colt McCoy reportedly agree to deal

Rookie quarterback Colt McCoy, whom the Browns selected in the third round (85th overall), agreed Thursday to a four-year deal worth as much as $5 million, according to a report from ESPN.com.

As a four-year starter at the University of Texas, McCoy became the winningest quarterback in NCAA history with 45 career victories. But McCoy is expected to watch and learn this season, with veterans Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace in line to be ahead of him on the Browns' depth chart.

Browns, rookie offensive lineman Shawn Lauvao agree to terms

Rookie offensive lineman Shawn Lauvao, a third round (92nd overall) draft pick, has agreed to the terms of a four-year deal with the Browns Thursday and will likely sign his contract before the end of the day, his agent, Mark Humenik, told the Beacon Journal via e-mail.

Humenik said the deal includes a signing bonus of $697,000.

Browns defensive lineman Shaun Rogers earns praise from police

Browns defensive lineman Shaun Rogers might have saved lives last week when he called Middleburg Heights police and alerted them about a driver who was swerving on Interstate71.

After the driver pulled over, Rogers reportedly stopped his truck and put on his emergency flashers so others wouldn't hit the car that was still partially on the highway. The driver was eventually charged with driving under the influence and operating an unsafe vehicle.

Browns coach Eric Mangini wants to repair relationship with Bill Belichick

Browns coach Eric Mangini, pictured above right, told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk that he's open to repairing his relationship with his former mentor, Bill Belichick.

Mangini on his relationship with Belichick: "He and I haven't really talked. When I talk about him, he was my mentor. He taught me everything, and I respect him tremendously. That's not bull. That's how I feel. I hope at some point, we'll be able to sit down and talk about things and get back to a better relationship. It's not there right now, but at some point things have a tendency to roll back."

The Browns signed tight end Joel Gamble, the team announced Monday.

Gamble spent the final four weeks of this past season on the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad. He also spent time in 2009 with the DC Armor of the American Indoor Football Association (AIFA). His resume also includes stints with the Tennessee Valley Vipers (2007), Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (2007) and Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings (2008) of arenafootball2 (af2).

Browns coach Eric Mangini: It's Delhomme's job to lose

During his guest appearance on "The Dan Patrick Show" Monday, Browns coach Eric Mangini said the team's starting quarterback job is Jake Delhomme's to lose.

At the conclusion of  minicamp earlier this summer, Mangini refused to name Delhomme the Browns' starting quarterback. He gave a more definitive answer about Delhomme on Monday, but he still said perceived backup quarterback Seneca Wallace will receive reps with the Browns' first-team offense when training camp begins.

The Browns' "player ratings" for the Madden 11 video game have been released. Sure, it's just a video game, but a lot of players and fans actually pay attention to this stuff.

Browns rookie cornerback Joe Haden has no intentions of holding out, his agent, Malik Shareef, told the Beacon Journal via e-mail on Thursday.

Haden, a former University of Florida standout and the seventh overall pick in this year's draft, has yet to reach a contract agreement with the Browns. However, Shareef indicated he's confident Haden, pictured left jumping over an opposing player, will be at the Browns' training camp when it begins July 31 in Berea.

The Browns and rookie receiver Carlton Mitchell reached an agreement on a four-year contract, Mitchell's agent, Christina Phillips, wrote in an e-mail to the Beacon Journal on Wednesday.

Phillips declined to disclose the financial terms of the contract. The Browns could not confirm the deal because they have yet to receive a signed contract from Mitchell, team spokesman Neal Gulkis confirmed.

Browns linebacker D'Qwell Jackson plans to attend the first day of the team's training camp July 31 in Berea, Jackson's agent, Brian Mackler, wrote in an e-mail.

After Jackson, pictured left, signed his one-year tender for $1.759 million on June 14 to end his contract dispute as a restricted free agent, reports surfaced indicating that Jackson would not hold out for a long-term deal. On Tuesday, Mackler confirmed nothing has changed, and his client should be on time for training camp.

No 'hard feelings' for Browns safety Abram Elam

In a recent blog post on his Web site, Browns safety Abram Elam suggested he won't hold out during training camp after signing his one-year contract tender as a restricted free agent last month. Elam, a Kent State University product, led the Browns with 88 tackles last season. He and four other Browns players -- linebackers D'Qwell Jackson and Matt Roth, running back Jerome Harrison and fullback Lawrence Vickers -- were restricted free agents who signed their tenders just before the June 15 deadline to avoid losing money.

Defensive lineman Smith charged with having gun at airport

Browns defensive lineman Robaire Smith was found last year with a loaded gun at a Michigan airport, according to a newspaper report.

The Flint Journal reports that Smith was found with a loaded gun in his carry-on bag at Bishop Airport. Smith faces gun charges after airport security found the gun while his bag went through an X-ray machine in November.

Browns release training camp schedule

On Thursday, the Browns released the dates and times of their training camp practices, including 20  that will be free and open to the public later this summer.

Training camp is scheduled to begin Saturday, July 31, at the Browns' headquarters in Berea. Among the free practices open to the public will be a "Family Day" intrasquad scrimmage Aug. 7 at Cleveland Browns Stadium.
