Browns awarded safety Brett Johnson off waivers

By Nate Ulrich Published: August 15, 2011

The Browns have been awarded safety Brett Johnson off waivers from the Seattle Seattle Seahawks, the team announced today.

Johnson, who entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent from the University of California, spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles and the St. Louis Rams before being released prior to the start of the 2010 regular season. He was signed to the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad on Dec. 22, where he remained for the rest of the season.

Browns rookie safety Eric Hagg, a seven-round pick (248th overall) in this year's draft, will have knee surgery today, coach Pat Shurmur said. Hagg fell on his left knee during practice this past Thursday.

Johnson will wear No. 33 on his jersey.
