Browns CB Buster Skrine to start despite injured shoulder, starting LDE Ahtyba Rubin out with calf

By Nate Ulrich Published: September 8, 2013

Browns cornerback Buster Skrine will start today in the regular-season opener against the Miami Dolphins despite suffering a shoulder injury Thursday during practice and entering the weekend listed as questionable on the injury report.

Meanwhile, starting left defensive end Ahtyba Rubin has been ruled out with the calf injury he felt the effects from after practice Thursday. Like Skrine, Rubin was listed as questionable heading into today.

Billy Winn will start in Rubin’s place. Rubin sat out three-plus games with an injured calf last season, but coach Rob Chudzinski said this is an entirely different injury.

In addition to Rubin, quarterback Brian Hoyer, tight end MarQueis Gray, rookie outside linebacker Barkevious Mingo (bruised lung), offensive lineman Martin Wallace, right guard Shawn Lauvao (high ankle sprain) and outside linebacker Paul Hazel are inactive for the Browns.

As expected, Oniel Cousins will start in place of Lauvao at right guard.
