Browns claim offensive lineman Nick McDonald off waivers from Chargers

The Browns were awarded offensive lineman Nick McDonald off waivers today from the San Diego Chargers, the team announced.

The Chargers waived McDonald on Monday with a non-football injury designation. He signed with the Chargers in January.

He sat out the entire 2013 season after the New England Patriots cut him in training camp.

The 6-foot-4, 306-pound McDonald entered the NFL in 2010 as an undrafted free agent with the Green Bay Packers. He spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons with the Patriots, starting three of 16 regular-season games in which he appeared. He also played in two games with the Patriots during the 2011 playoffs.

McDonald, 27, has received playing time at center and both guard spots.
