Browns claim offensive lineman Patrick Lewis off waivers from Packers, according to report

The Browns have claimed center/guard Patrick Lewis off waivers from the Green Bay Packers, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel first reported today.

The Browns have yet to announce the move.

The Packers hoped to re-sign Lewis to their practice squad after cutting him Saturday, according to the report.

The 6-foot-1, 311-pound Lewis will be counted on to provide the Browns with depth on their offensive line. Lewis, 22, is an undrafted rookie from Texas A&M University.

Veteran backup right tackle Oniel Cousins is favored to start at right guard when the Browns open the regular season Sept. 8 against the Miami Dolphins, coach Rob Chudzinski said.

Shawn Lauvao and Jason Pinkston were battling for the starting right guard job this summer, but both of them suffered high ankle sprains and will miss the early stages of the regular season.
