Browns coach Pat Shurmur: SS T.J. Ward placed on IR; QB Colt McCoy ruled out vs. Ravens
Browns coach Pat Shurmur met with reporters today after his team practiced in preparation for its road game Saturday against the Baltimore Ravens. Here are some of the highlights from the news conference:
- Strong safety T.J. Ward has been placed on injured reserve, Shurmur said. Ward hasn't played since he sprained his right foot Nov. 6 against the Houston Texans. "Well, we're looking at his recovery and the games left available and then had some players that got knocked out of action this past week, so it's a move we needed to make," Shurmur said. Will Ward need to have surgery? "I don't think he's had any setbacks," Shurmur said. "We knew it was gonna be an extended recovery period and at this point, no."
- Quarterback Colt McCoy (concussion) and wide receiver Jordan Norwood (concussion) have been ruled out for Saturday, Shurmur said. Quarterback Seneca Wallace will make his second consecutive start. "Colt was here today, Shurmur said. "He got treatment. He did a little bit of physical activity, was in the meetings and then he went home. So he won't travel with us and until he's cleared to practice, he's really not available to speak and he's getting better."
- The Browns will promote wide receiver Rod Windsor from the practice squad to the active roster, Shurmur said. "Jordan Norwood's down, so (we needed) a receiver, and Rod's done a good job on the practice squad," Shurmur said. "If he's up and available, I'm sure he'll do a good job in the games."
