Browns DE Marcus Benard suffers broken hand in motorcycle accident

Browns defensive end Marcus Benard was injured in a motorcycle accident this afternoon on Interstate 71 in Brooklyn. Benard suffered a broken hand and is in stable condition, a team spokesman said.

After the accident, Benard was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland and later transferred to the Cleveland Clinic for further evaluation, the team spokesman said.

Brooklyn police said the accident is under investigation.

Joe Sheehan, the Browns' head athletic trainer, spoke with Benard on the phone after the accident, the team spokesman said. Sheehan also went to MetroHealth.

"Praying 4my boy Marcus Benard!!!!" Browns wide receiver Josh Cribbs wrote on Twitter.

The accident was first reported by John Telich of FOX 8. Benard crashed into a wall on the highway, according to Telich.
