Browns not for sale despite rumor, team spokesman says
The Browns have shot down a rumor that the team might be for sale.
“The Cleveland Browns are not for sale,” team spokesman Neal Gulkis said this evening.
The rumor started this afternoon when Howard Eskin of 94 WIP and NBC 10 TV in Philadelphia tweeted that he heard the Browns may be for sale.
Eskin further explained his tweet in a radio interview with 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland.
“I was also told by an NFL source that Cleveland and St. Louis may be for sale,” Eskin said. … “I don’t know how serious. Obviously there’s a thought there because if NFL people are getting a feel for this, then there is a thought there that the Browns could possibly be sold. For the right price, anything could be sold.”
However, the Browns have definitively stated the team is not for sale.
Randy Lerner became the owner of the Browns in 2002 when his father Al died and he inherited the team. The NFL awarded Al Lerner the Browns in 1998.
