Browns pick Colt McCoy with the 85th overall selection

The Browns selected University of Texas quarterback Colt McCoy with the 85th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.

University of Texas coach Mack Brown announced the selection.

McCoy, 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds, led the Longhorns to 45 wins in his career. That is a NCAA Division I record for a quarterback.

ESPN analysts Jon Gruden, Steve Young, Tom Jackson, Chris Berman and Mel Kper Jr. spoke very positively about the selection of McCoy.

Colt McCoy's comments on an interview televised on ESPN:

"It was awesome. My heart skipped a beat. I was so gradteful to hear from ocah holmrgen and all the people upi there.

"I am really excited about this opportunity."

"I am coming into work my tail off."

"I can't wait to meet the players on the team. We will win a lot of games."

"Cleveland has a little bit of orange in their jerseys just like UT."

When Mike Holmgren called  McCoy on the telephone about the selection: "I told him you will not regret it and we are going to win a lot of games. It has been a long day. At the end of the day, this was God's plan and that is where I am supposed to be."

Additional Colt McCoy comments to the Cleveland area media assembled in Berea:

"It meant for a long day. The last two day s have been really long. I am where I am supposed to be and that is Cleveland. I can not be more excited.

"When I left Cleveland, I called my folks and said this where I want to be."

"I am fired up to be a Cleveland Brown and I hope they are too."

"I really like the city. I know it is a good, hard-working, blue-collar town and that is who I am."

"I fully expect to come in and work with Jake."

"I want to be the best ... and lead my team to victories."

"It is an exciting time. To have Coach Brown introduce me and announce my name is really special."
