Browns place LB Scott Fujita, CB Eric Wright on injured reserve

The Browns placed linebacker Scott Fujita and cornerback Eric Wright on injured reserve Tuesday, the team announced. Both players are out for the season with knee injuries.

The Browns also signed nose tackle Travis Ivey, who was a member of the team's practice squad, and free-agent linebacker Steve Octavien to their active roster. Fullback Tyler Clutts was signed to the Browns' practice squad.

Fujita, pictured right, injured a ligament in his left knee Nov. 14 against the New York Jets. He has not played since, but he had hoped to return to action before the end of the season.

Fujita, perhaps the defense's MVP before he was sidelined, is the second team captain to be placed on IR this season. The other was defensive end Robaire Smith (back).

Wright hurt his left knee Nov. 21 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was inactive the following week, when the Browns played the Carolina Panthers, but he returned Dec. 5 against the Miami Dolphins. This past Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, Wright re-injured his left knee in the fourth quarter, when nose tackle Ahtyba Rubin collided with his leg while making a tackle.

In a news conference Monday, Browns coach Eric Mangini revealed Wright would be placed on IR. There was still some hope Fujita could return, though, until the team team made its announcement.

The 6-foot-4, 325-pound Ivey was signed to the Browns' practice squad Sept. 5, a day after he was released by the Miami Dolphins. He was a four-year letterman at the University of Maryland (2006-09), where he appeared in 32 games and made 16 starts. He started all 12 games as a senior and recorded 54 tackles, six tackles for loss, two sacks and three fumble recoveries.

Last season, the 6-foot, 255-pound Octavien had two tackles on defense and 12 on special teams for the Dallas Cowboys.  He was released by the Cowboys on Sept. 4. Octavien played in 22 games with 10 starts during his three seasons at the University of Nebraska (2005-07). During his senior season, he appeared in 12 games with eight starts and collected 92 tackles, two sacks and 15 tackles for loss.

The 6-foot-2, 260-pound Clutts played for the Sacramento Mountain Lions during the 2010 UFL season. He was a four-year letterman as a defensive end at Fresno State (2004-07), where he played in 50 games. He had 172 tackles, 34.5 tackles for loss and 23.5 sacks in college.
