Browns place LB Scott Fujita, DE Emmanuel Stephens on injured reserve
The Browns have placed starting strongside linebacker Scott Fujita and starting right defensive end Emmanuel Stephens on injured reserve, the team announced today.
The Browns promoted linebacker Benjamin Jacobs and defensive lineman Brian Sanford from the practice squad to the active roster. They will fill the roster spots of Fujita and Stephens.
The Browns also signed defensive lineman Ayanga Okpokowuruk, defensive back David Sims and linebacker Brian Smith to the practice squad.
Fujita, who's pictured to the right, broke his right hand in two places this past Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. Stephens strained his left pectoral muscle in the same game.
Fujita's season has ended on injured reserve for the second year in a row. Starting weakside linebacker Chris Gocong is expected to move to the strong side. Backup Kaluka Maiava is dealing with a sprained knee, but he is expected to fill Gocong's usual spot as a starter on the weak side.
Stephens was recently named a starter when Jayme Mitchell was demoted. Mitchell has been dealing with an ankle injury, and it's unclear whether he's healthy enough to reclaim his starting job. Brian Schaefering, Auston English and Scott Paxson rotated at right end this past Sunday while Stephens was ailing.
