President Mike Holmgren said Pat Shurmur will "absolutely" be the head coach of the Browns next season.
"We have a very, very competent head coach who will be here for a long time," Holmgren said today during a news conference. ... "He's a good man, and he's gonna be the coach around here for a long time."
Through 13 games of his first season as a head coach on any level, Shurmur has guided the Browns to a record of 4-9.
"If you just look at our games this season, if we did two things better, we'd have a chance I think to be 7-6," Holmgren said. "And people would be feeling a little better about themselves. I know the coaches would. If we'd just been able to snap the damn ball and catch a few more passes. We've dropped too many passes, and we had trouble with snapping the ball. You just do those two things a little bit better and maybe people get off that 'same old, same old' thing."
