Browns retain RB George Atkinson, CB Marcus Burley; RB Isaiah Crowell has yet to sign RFA tender

The Browns signed running back George Atkinson III and cornerback Marcus Burley.

The franchise announced the moves Monday after players reported to team headquarters for the start of the voluntary offseason workout program.

Atkinson, 24, was an exclusive-rights free agent. Burley, 26, was a restricted free agent.

Atkinson appeared in all 16 games with the Browns last season after they claimed him off waivers from the Oakland Raiders. He played special teams, compiling six tackles and eight kickoff returns for 137 yards, until the season finale, when he ran seven times for 34 yards and a touchdown.

Burley appeared in 12 games with the Browns last season after they claimed him off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks. He had five tackles, one pass defensed and two special-teams tackles.

Starting running back and restricted free agent Isaiah Crowell has yet to sign the second-round tender the Browns placed on him in February.

If Crowell signs the tender, he would play the 2017 season on a one-year contract worth $2.7 million. The tender allows the Browns to match any offer Crowell receives from another team. The deadline for restricted free agents to sign offer sheets from other clubs is Friday.

It's unclear whether Crowell attended Monday's workouts. The Browns wouldn't disclose the information, and Crowell's agent didn't return messages seeking comment.

A team spokesman said he spotted quarterback Brock Osweiler on Monday at team headquarters, though. Browns coach Hue Jackson said last month at the NFL owners meetings he expected Osweiler to report for the offseason conditioning program, but he didn't know if Osweiler would be on the team during the upcoming season.

The Browns traded for Osweiler's contract last month to acquire a 2018 second-round draft pick from the Houston Texans. But they don't envision Osweiler playing for them. They would like to trade him and will probably release him if a deal doesn't materialize.
