Browns rookie RB Trent Richardson appears to be ready to play Sunday

By Nate Ulrich Published: October 26, 2012

Rookie running back Trent Richardson appears to be on the verge playing through his rib injury again this weekend.

Richardson worked with the Browns’ offense during practice this morning and looked comfortable taking handoffs and running.

Of course, the only way for Richardson to truly test the injury that has hindered him in each of the past two games is to find out how it holds up Sunday when he takes some hits from the San Diego Chargers. If Richardson's workload decreases, backup Montario Hardesty will receive more playing time.

Injury updates

Starting defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin (calf) sat out practice for the third consecutive day, meaning he’ll likely be ruled out for Sunday.

Cornerback Dimitri Patterson (ankle) and linebacker Scott Fujita (neck) didn’t practice this week, either. Fujita will be placed on injured reserve, coach Pat Shurmur announced Wednesday.

Offensive linemen Ryan Miller and Jarrod Shaw returned to practice today after sitting out Thursday with illnesses.

Extra points

Left guard Jason Pinkston, who’s on IR with a blood clot in his lung, watched practice from the field today. Pinkston was hospitalized Oct. 18 and released Wednesday. … Outgoing team president Mike Holmgren also watched practice today. … The Browns practiced in their field house today instead of outdoors.
