Browns sign 11 undrafted free agents including four receivers

By George Thomas Published: May 12, 2014

Given the Josh Gordon situation, it’s clear that wide receiver is a position of need for the Browns, especially considering they went the entire draft without selecting one.

They signed four undrafted free agents to make up for a perceived problem at that spot. General manager Ray Farmer said that he believes that there isn’t an overwhelming problem and pointed to the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahwaks as a team who succeeded without a stable of top-line receivers.

Owner Jimmy Haslam said the Browns signed for UFAs who they believe can make the team this year. Perhaps they find a receiver here:

Ray Agnew (FB), Southern Illinois; Calvin Barnett (DL), Oklahoma State; Darwin Cook (DB), West Virginia; Isaiah Crowell (RB), Alabama State; Anthony Dima (OL), Massachusetts; Chandler Jones (WR), San Jose State; Jonathan Krause (WR), Vanderbilt; Michael Phillip (OL), Oregon State; Connor Shaw (QB), South Carolina; Kenny Shaw (WR), Florida State; Willie Snead (WR), Ball State.

Ultimately, Jones may be the most intriguing:

From a news release:  Chandler Jones – Finished as San Jose State’s career leader in receptions (248), receiving yards (3,087) and touchdown catches (29)… Became first player in school history with at least 50 receptions as a freshman, sophomore, junior and senior… Appeared in 50 games and registered 10 100-yard receiving games… In 2011, he became the second player in NCAA history to score a touchdown rushing, receiving and by fumble recovery in the same game… Father, Mike Jones, played seven seasons as an NFL wide receiver and is currently the offensive coordinator at Tennessee State University…  Graduated from Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance, Calif.
