Browns sign 7 from minicamp tryouts; Pressley, Cooper, Gurley among cuts

Wide receivers Anthony Armstrong and Taylor Gabriel, running back Jourdan Brooks, offensive lineman Randall Harris, defensive lineman Jacobbi McDaniel, defensive back Robert Nelson and tight end James Oboh signed with the Browns Monday.

All seven were among the 35 players invited to last week's rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.

Wide receivers Josh Cooper and Tori Gurley, running back Jamaine Cook, offensive linemen Anthony Dima and Michael Philipp, fullback Chris Pressley, tight end Andre Smith and defensive lineman Elhadji Ndiaye were waived.

Pressley was thought to be a significant addition for offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan's attack when he was signed on April 14. Pressley started for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2011 and 2012; an injury kept him on the physically unable to perform list last season.

Armstrong is entering his fourth NFL season. He has appeared in 35 games with 13 starts and caught 54 passes for 986 yards and five touchdowns. In 2010, Shanahan's first year as offensive coordinator of the Washington Redskins, Armstrong caught 44 passes for 871 yards and three TDs.

Brooks spent 10 weeks on the Bengals' practice squad in 2012. Gabriel finished second in Abilene Christian history in career receptions (215), yards (3,027) and touchdowns (27). Harris and Oboh played with Browns' third-round pick Terrance West at Towson. McDaniel, a Florida State product, was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2009. Nelson began his college career at Louisiana-Monroe but transferred to Arizona State, when he led the Sun Devils with six interceptions last season.
