Browns sign fifth-round pick Larry Asante to a four-year deal; team waives two players
Updated at 6:10 p.m. Friday
The Browns announced the signing of rookie safety Larry Asante.
Post from Wednesday
Browns rookie safety Larry Asante signed a four-year deal worth about $1.96 million, according to a Twitter post by Adam Caplan of FOXSports.com.
A league source confirmed the report and said Asante's deal includes a signing bonus of $168,860.
The Browns selected Asante in the fifth round (160th overall) of this year's draft. The 6-foot, 210-pound Asante started 36 of the 39 games in which he played at the University of Nebraska, where he compiled 224 tackles (79 as a senior), one sack, three forced fumbles and three interceptions.
The Browns announced Wednesday that they waived two players: defensive lineman Keith Grennan, who failed a physical, and injured tight end Greg Estandia. Grennan spent time on the Browns' practice squad last season. Estandia appeared in four games with the Browns last season after he was claimed off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
