The Browns worked out veteran outside linebacker Edgar Jones today, Aaron Wilson of NationalFootballPost.com reported.
A deal is not imminent.
The Browns cut veteran outside linebacker Quentin Jones last week and now have only five players at the position: Jabaal Sheard, Paul Kruger, Barkevious Mingo, Justin Staples and Eric Martin.
Jones, 29, is familiar with the Browns’ coaching staff. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens in 2007 and spent his first two seasons with new Browns coach Mike Pettine serving as his position coach.
The 6-foot-4, 262-pound Jones also has played for the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs. He has appeared in 64 regular-season games with no starts, compiling 38 tackles, including 1½ sacks, and a forced fumble. He has been a special teams contributor throughout his career.
