Cleveland Browns' 2012 schedule unveiled

By Nate Ulrich Published: April 17, 2012

The Browns' 2012 regular-season schedule was released tonight. Here it is, complete with our early storylines:

WEEK 1 -- Sun., Sept. 9: vs. Philadelphia Eagles, FOX, 1 p.m. Early storyline: Pat Shurmur faces his mentor, Eagles coach Andy Reid, in the regular season for the first time as a head coach. The Browns are 1-12 in regular-season openers since 1999 and have lost seven in a row.

WEEK 2 -- Sun., Sept. 16: at Cincinnati Bengals, CBS, 1 p.m. Early storyline: The Browns lured defensive end Frostee Rucker away from the Bengals in free agency. Think the Bengals will be fired up to see Frostee and vice versa?

WEEK 3 -- Sun., Sept. 23: vs. Buffalo Bills, CBS, 1 p.m. Early storyline: Whoever plays offensive right tackle for the Browns needs some luck against new Bills defensive end Mario Williams.

WEEK 4 -- Thur., Sept. 27: at Baltimore Ravens, NFL Network, 8:20 p.m. Early storyline: The Browns look to redeem themselves in this prime-time matchup after quarterback Seneca Wallace and Shurmur failed to get on the same page, leaving points off the board just before halftime in a classic Christmas Eve meltdown last season against the Ravens.

WEEK 5 -- Sun., Oct. 7: at New York Giants, CBS, 1 p.m. Early storyline: The Browns try to slay another defending Super Bowl champion. They’ve done it in three of the past four seasons (2008 Giants, 2009 Pittsburgh Steelers, 2010 New Orleans Saints).

WEEK 6 -- Sun., Oct. 14: vs. Cincinnati Bengals, CBS, 1 p.m.

WEEK 7 -- Sun., Oct. 21: at Indianapolis Colts, CBS, 1 p.m. Early storyline: The Browns meet Andrew Luck, assuming the Colts draft him as Peyton Manning’s heir.

WEEK 8 -- Sun., Oct. 28: vs. San Diego Chargers, CBS, 1 p.m. Early storyline: The Browns hope to avoid being tortured by former Kent State basketball standout Antonio Gates. In 2009, he had eight catches for 167 yards, helping the Chargers defeat the Browns 30-23.

WEEK 9 -- Sun., Nov. 4: vs. Baltimore Ravens, CBS, 1 p.m.

WEEK 10 -- Sun., Nov. 11: BYE

WEEK 11 -- Sun., Nov. 18: at Dallas Cowboys, CBS, #1 p.m. Early storyline: Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan just might direct some trash talk at his former team.

WEEK 12 -- Sun., Nov. 25: vs. Pittsburgh Steelers, CBS, #1 p.m. Early storyline: The Browns face their archrival for the first time since the concussion controversy surrounding Colt McCoy and James Harrison unfolded last December.

WEEK 13 -- Sun., Dec. 2: at Oakland Raiders, CBS, #4:15 p.m. Early storyline: The Browns seek revenge after giving up two special-teams touchdowns last season in a 24-17 loss to the Raiders.

WEEK 14 -- Sun., Dec. 9: vs. Kansas City Chiefs, CBS, #1 p.m. Early storyline: Running back Peyton Hillis, coach Romeo Crennel and offensive coordinator Brian Daboll reunite with the Browns. Enough said.

WEEK 15 -- Sun., Dec. 16: vs. Washington Redskins, FOX, #1 p.m. Early storyline: Quarterback Robert Griffin III, assuming the Redskins pick him second overall in the draft, and wide receivers Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan visit Cleveland. The Browns pursued all three this offseason but didn’t seal the deals.

WEEK 16 -- Sun., Dec. 23: at Denver Broncos, CBS, #4:05 p.m. Early storyline: The Browns face Peyton Manning in his new home and reunite with their starting free safety from last season, Mike Adams.

WEEK 17 -- Sun., Dec. 30: at Pittsburgh Steelers, CBS, #1 p.m.
