Defensive backs coach Louie Cioffi leaves Browns, joins Titans with DC Ray Horton

By Nate Ulrich Published: January 20, 2014

Former Browns defensive coordinator Ray Horton is bringing his right-hand man along for yet another new job.

The Tennessee Titans not only announced their previously reported hire of Horton today, but they also named Louie Cioffi their defensive backs coach.

Cioffi spent the 2013 season with Horton and Browns, serving as their defensive backs coach. He held the same job with the Arizona Cardinals from 2011-12, when Horton led the Cardinals' defense. Cioffi has 19 seasons as an NFL assistant on his resume.

Under Cioffi’s guidance, the Browns finished this past season with the NFL’s eighth-ranked pass defense (221.1 passing yards allowed per game). Cornerback Joe Haden also made his first Pro Bowl, and Haden and strong safety T.J. Ward were named second-team All Pro.
