Browns defensive lineman Robaire Smith was found last year with a loaded gun at a Michigan airport, according to a newspaper report.
The Flint Journal reports that Smith was found with a loaded gun in his carry-on bag at Bishop Airport. Smith faces gun charges after airport security found the gun while his bag went through an X-ray machine in November.
Smith was charged with possession of a firearm in a sterile area of a commercial airport. He faces a maximum sentence of a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
A county prosecutor told the paper that Smith's gun had between 15 and 17 rounds in the gun's magazine, but no bullet was in the chamber.
Charges were brought Thursday on a local level instead of being issued federally.
Smith's agent told the paper that the NFL was notified of the indiscretion and issued its discipline.
