Eric Mangini press conference highlights

By Nate Ulrich Published: June 10, 2010

Browns coach Eric Mangini met with media Thursday afternoon following the first practice of Browns mandatory minicamp. Here are some of the highlights from the press conference:

  • Mangini was pleased with the first practice. He said his players did an adequate job showing their retention from organized team activities.

  • Mangini expects running back Peyton Hillis to return to team headquarters Friday. Hillis has been ill recently, and Mangini doesn't think he'll practice this weekend.

  • Mangini on the Browns' three restricted free agents who did not practice Thursday: "Would I like them here? Yeah. But they're not here, so we'll move forward with the group that we have."

  • There were a lot of incomplete passes in the first practice, but Mangini refused to criticize the offense. Instead, he credited the defense. "I thought the defense did a good job this morning," he said.

  • The Browns switched the direction of the fields at their practice facility. Mangini said it was to limit the wear and tear in specific spots on the field.

  • Mangini said there's a solid group of veterans that has expanded its leadership role this offseason. "I think a lot of those guys are feeling more empowered to do that because they understand things better."
