Ex-Chiefs receiver Steve Breaston to visit Browns

Wide receiver Steve Breaston, cut by the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 19, plans to visit the Browns soon, a league source told the Beacon Journal.

The source spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

NFL.com reported the visit with Breaston will be Tuesday.

A six-year veteran who also played for the Arizona Cardinals, Breaston signed a five-year, $22.5 million contract with the Chiefs in 2011. He fell out of favor there last season, catching only seven passes for 74 yards in 10 games. In some of the games he sat out, he was a healthy scratch.

Breaston, 29, has played in 86 games with 43 starts and has totaled 255 receptions for 3,387 yards and nine touchdowns. His career-high of 1,006 yards came in 2008 with the Cardinals. He recorded three seasons with over 700 yards, including 2011, when he caught 61 passes, two for scores.

ProFootballTalk reported that Breaston met with the Steelers Sunday. Breaston was born in North Bradock, Pa. Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley coached Breaston with the Cardinals and his first year with the Chiefs.

NFL.com reported that the Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans are also interested in Breaston. With the Browns, he could take the roster spot of Mohamed Massaquoi, who will become a free agent on March 12 and is not expected to return.

"I know of the Pittsburgh tradition and the winning ways, and it would be a great team to be involved with, but for me, it is all about using this process," Breaston told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. "I have to take everything in and see what would be a good fit for me and where I can come in and play."
