First depth chart lists co-starting QBs
The Browns released their first depth chart under coach Eric Mangini Tuesday and quarterbacks Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn are listed as co-starters with a slash separating their names.
''I'm trying to avoid all the questions ... if you put a name there, he's the starter,'' Mangini said. ''Nothing really has changed. I had to submit a depth chart.''¶
The Browns open the preseason Saturday night at Green Bay.
Asked if it was an accurate reflection of where guys stand, Mangini said, ''I didn't spend a lot of time reviewing it.''
Mangini deferred to veterans in at least two cases. Mike Furrey, a six-year veteran free agent who spent the past three seasons in Detroit, was listed as the No. 2 receiver. Behind Furrey are Joshua Cribbs, rookie Brian Robiskie of Ohio State and Lance Leggett. Braylon Edwards' backups were David Patten, rookie Mohamed Massaquoi of Georgia, Paul Hubbard and rookie free agent Jordan Norwood of Penn State.
At center, incumbent Hank Fraley was the starter over rookie Alex Mack, the 21st overall pick from Cal.
Robert Royal was listed as the starting tight end over Steve Heiden, who is coming off reconstructive surgery on his right knee. On the right side of the offensive line, Floyd Womack was at guard and John St. Clair at tackle. Corey Williams, Shaun Rogers and Kenyon Coleman were the starting defensive linemen, while the linebacking corps consisted of Kamerion Wimbley and David Bowens outside and D'Qwell Jackson and Eric Barton inside.
