Former Browns backup offensive lineman Oniel Cousins signed a one-year contract today as an unrestricted free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reported.
Cousins, 29, will reunite with Buccaneers offensive line coach George Warhop, who held the same job with the Browns from 2009-13. Cousins wasn’t expected to return to the Browns.
The 6-foot-4, 315-pound Cousins spent the past three seasons with the Browns. He has been a backup right tackle for the vast majority of his career, but he started four games at right guard last season because Shawn Lauvao and Jason Pinkston were sidelined with ankle injuries. ProFootballFocus.com ranked Cousins 71st out of 81 NFL guards last season.
The Browns claimed Cousins off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens in 2011. Cousins, a third-round draft pick of the Ravens in 2008, has started nine of the 60 games in which he has appeared during his six-year career.
