From fantasy perspective, Browns ranked No. 31

By Nate Ulrich Published: June 30, 2010

Yahoo! Sports ranked the Browns No. 31 in its fantasy football "juggernaut index."

Remember, this analysis pertains to fantasy football, not real football. Still, it's a worthwhile read because it reveals how some people -- those who primarily study stats -- view the Browns.

Colt McCoy confirms he'll enter training camp as a married man

By Nate Ulrich Published: June 24, 2010

Browns rookie quarterback Colt McCoy said he'll enter training camp as a married man. And apparently I look like a hybrid of Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson and Will Ferrell from "Wedding Crashers" because McCoy refused to tell me his wedding date.

McCoy made headlines when he proposed to Rachel Glandorf this past January on the field at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. McCoy arranged for a "will you marry me?" message to appear on the stadium's scoreboard when he popped the question.

Kosar's name surfaces at Blagojevich trial

By Nate Ulrich Published: June 17, 2010

This story is as bizarre as the headline on this post suggests. And I must admit, it's an odd addition to this blog. But, hey, Bernie Kosar is Bernie Kosar. Browns fans, or at least most of them, become curious when he's in the news. So without further ado ...

From the Chicago Tribune: Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s former chief of staff Alonzo “Lon” Monk, a prosecution witness, was caught on a secret recording saying the late fundraiser Chris Kelly was contemplating seeking a pardon with the help of former Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar, who played college football at Miami.

Therefore, the Browns' first training camp practice as a team should be held on July 31 -- that's a Saturday -- at the team's headquarters in Berea. As usual, the dates and times of practices that will be open to the public will be released later this summer, so stay tuned.

Poll: Should NFL expand regular season to 18 games?

By Nate Ulrich Published: June 16, 2010

I alluded to this topic in a previous post, but the discussions are heating up, so here we go again. NFL and union officials met Wednesday to address the possibility of adding two more regular-season games to the league's schedule.

NFL teams now play at least 20 games -- four preseason games and 16 regular-season games -- per season. Of course, those teams good and/or lucky enough to qualify for the postseason play more.

The Browns and receiver Joe Jurevicius reached a settlement in a lawsuit over a staph infection that ultimately ended Jurevicius' career.

Jurevicius, a native of the Cleveland area, sued the Browns and the Cleveland Clinic last year, accusing the Browns of misrepresenting the cleanliness of their training facility. He blamed doctors with negligence over the 2008 staph infection in his right knee. The Browns denied the claim.

Browns' 5 RFAs sign

By Marla Ridenour Published: June 14, 2010

Faced with taking a pay cut that would have cost most of them $1 million this season, the Browns' five restricted free agents signed their one-year tenders Monday, a team spokesman confirmed.

Linebacker D'Qwell Jackson and Matt Roth, running back Jerome Harrison, fullback Lawrence Vickers and safety Abram Elam had until 11:59 p.m. to sign or see the Browns' offer reduced to a 10 percent raise over their 2009 salary. For four of the five, that would have meant losing $1 million.

Browns lineman Pashos boycotts BP

While talking about encountering Browns fans as he runs errands at grocery stores and gas stations, Pashos spoke out against BP and said he's boycotting it because of the Gulf oil spill.

Ravens forced to cancel OTAs

Poll: Do you have faith in Holmgren, Heckert?

By Nate Ulrich Published: June 2, 2010

This is a must-read story for all Browns fans. Jon Saraceno of USA Today examined the task president Mike Holmgren and General Manager Tom Heckert face in reviving the Browns. He also broke down each position on the team and ended his analysis with the following outlook:

"Since returning to the NFL in 1999, this franchise has mostly stumbled about with poor decisions made at the top regarding players and coaches. But the hiring of Holmgren and Heckert is a strong indication ownership is serious about restoring pride and tradition. Strides were made in the offseason, but Holmgren tempers 2010 expectations: "You can't fix everything in one year."
