Francies among 3 signed

By Marla Ridenour Published: July 15, 2009

The Browns announced the signing of cornerbacks Don Carey and Coye Francies and running back James Davis, giving them three of their eight draft picks under contract.

Carey agreed to terms Tuesday, along with linebacker Kaluka Maiava, who was not mentioned in the Browns' release, while Davis agreed late last week.

Terms were not disclosed, but Carey, Maiava and Davis reportedly received four-year deals.

Francies, like Carey a sixth-round pick, played last season at San Jose State, where he recorded 69 tackles and three interceptions. The Bakersfield, Calif. native sat out in 2007 after transferring from Oregon State and also played for American River College.

In other roster moves, rookies Jonathan Foster (a linebacker from Central State) and Nate Ness (a defensive back from Arizona) and first-year running back Marcus Thomas (Texas-El Paso) were waived.
