Browns coach Eric Mangini met with reporters Wednesday morning. Here are some of the highlights from the press conference:
Mangini said defensive linemen Shaun Rogers, Kenyon Coleman and Robaire Smith, offensive linemen Alex Mack and John St. Clair and defensive back Nick Sorensen won't practice today. Mack is out with a shoulder injury, but he's expected to return to practice later this week, Mangini said.
Mangini on team's trade with Minnesota Vikings for defensive lineman Jayme Mitchell: "I just liked a lot of his natural ability that he brings to us." Mangini said he doesn't think Mitchell has experience in a 3-4 defense, though he likes Mitchell's pass-rushing abilities. "He's got kind of the body type where you could play him at end or stand him up as an outside linebacker," Mangini said.
Quarterback Jake Delhomme will take the majority of the reps today in practice, Mangini said.
As far as he knows, the Browns did not look into acquiring wide receiver Randy Moss, Mangini said. For the record, the Browns will now avoid playing him in Week 9 when they face the New England Patriots.
