Highlights from press conference with Browns coach Eric Mangini
Browns coach Eric Mangini met with reporters Wednesday morning. Here are some of the highlights from the press conference:
- Offensive linemen Floyd Womack and Eric Steinbach, linebackers Eric Barton and Scott Fujita (knee), cornerback Sheldon Brown (shoulder), wide receiver Josh Cribbs (toes) and defensive lineman Shaun Rogers will miss practice today, Mangini said.
- Mangini said Steinbach injured his calf, but he expects Steinbach to return to action Thursday. Barton and Womack could also return Thursday, Mangini said.
- Mangini said he is still optimistic Cribbs and Brown will be able to practice later this week.
- Mangini rookie Shawn Lauvao played well at right guard after Billy Yates was sidelined against the New York Jets. Mangini said Lauvao, Womack and John St. Clair are in a three-way competition for two starting spots on the right side of the offensive line.
- Mangini said recently acquired return man Clifton Smith could be ready to play as soon as Sunday.
- Mangini said he still has hope Fujita will be able to return this season.
