Former Seahawks and Packers coach Mike Holmgren has agreed to terms with the Browns to become club president, the Browns announced.
Holmgren's role will not include coaching.
''We are pleased that Mike Holmgren has agreed to join the Cleveland Browns,'' owner Randy Lerner said in a statement. ''We will spend the rest of the week finalizing the details of the agreement and will make a formal announcement next week, at which time we will make him available to the media.''
Current president Mike Keenan will become the Browns' chief financial offer.
Holmgren interviewed with owner Randy Lerner last Monday and Tuesday, discussing parameters of Holmgren heading the Browns' football operations. Lerner said after a Nov. 1 loss at Chicago that he was seeking a ''serious, credible leader'' for the struggling team, now 3-11 after Sunday's victory at Kansas City.
