This morning, the Browns completed the first of today's two practices. Here are my observations from the morning practice:
Players who returned to practice after recently missing time: cornerback Brandon McDonald and fullback Lawrence Vickers.
Players who were still sidelined: Defensive linemen Shaun Rogers, C.J. Mosley and Titus Adams, defensive back Coye Francies, linebackers David Bowens, D'Qwell Jackson, wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi, offensive linemen Tony Pashos, Floyd Womack, John St. Clair, Shawn Lauvao, running back Montario Hardesty and punter Dave Zastudil.
With all the aforementioned players out who usually form the right side of the offensive line, Billy Yates (right guard) and Scott Kooistra (right tackle) practiced with the first-team offense.
In an 11-on-11 session with the defense simulating the defense of the St. Louis Rams, wide receiver Chansi Stuckey dropped a pass from quarterback Jake Delhomme.
The first-team defense looked like this: cornerbacks -- rookie Joe Haden and Sheldon Brown; safeties -- rookie T.J. Ward and Abram Elam; linebackers -- Matt Roth (outside), Chris Gocong, Eric Barton and Scott Fujita (outside); defensive line -- Kenyon Coleman, Ahtyba Rubin (nose tackle) and Robaire Smith. Note: Browns coach Eric Mangini said Haden worked with the first-team defense because Eric Wright is still dealing with a right leg injury. Wright did practice, though. He played with the first-team defense in nickel situations.
Haden and Josh Cribbs returned kickoffs.
Tight end Robert Royal made a catch along the sideline while falling out of bounds. Quarterback Seneca Wallace threw the pass.
Offensive lineman Paul Fanaika ran a lap as punishment after being called for a false start.
Rookie safety Larry Asante broke up a pass from Wallace and appeared to hurt his left hand and/or wrist during the play. He didn't leave practice, but he held his hand for a few minutes on the sideline.
Wide receivers Carlton Mitchell and Bobby Engram ran a lap together as punishment for miscues.
Cornerback Chris Chancellor intercepted two passes from Wallace.
Rookie quarterback Colt McCoy dropped a snap from under center. Pat Murray was playing center at the time.
Cornerback DeAngelo Smith intercepted a tipped pass thrown by quarterback Brett Ratliff.
Elam dropped an interception thrown by Delhomme.
Mitchell walked off the field with a trainer toward the end of practice. He appeared to injure his left shoulder and/or arm.
