After taking the day off from practice Tuesday, the Browns were out on the field again this morning. They're also scheduled to practice from 5:45-7:45 p.m. today. Here are my observations from the morning practice:
Players wore helmets, shoulder pads and shorts.
Offensive lineman John St. Clair returned to practice after being sidelined earlier this week.
Players who sat out Fullback Lawrence Vickers, running backs Peyton Hillis and Montario Hardesty, punter Dave Zastudil, defensive linemen Shaun Rogers, C.J. Mosley, defensive backs Coye Francies and DeAngelo Smith and linebacker Titus Brown. Hillis, Hardesty and Zastudil were not out on the field, but the others were.
Linebacker D'Qwell Jackson intercepted a pass from Brett Ratliff during a one-on-one drill.
Offensive lineman Floyd Womack pancaked linebacker David Veikune in a blocking drill.
If you come to watch practice, pay attention. Ratliff threw a pass into the crowd and caught some folks off guard. No one appeared to be hurt, though.
Running back Jerome Harrison caught a pass and turned it into a long gain down the sideline. When Harrison ran to about the 5-yard line, rookie safety T.J. Ward knocked the ball loose and forced a fumble before Harrison could reach the end zone.
Ward had a couple of other nice plays. He broke up passes thrown by quarterbacks Seneca Wallace and Jake Delhomme.
Rookie Shawn Lauvao and Tony Pashos played right guard and right tackle, respectively, with the first-team offense. Womack and John St. Clair filled in at right guard and right tackle, respectively, with the second-team offense.
Defensive back Gerard Lawson intercepted two passes during 11-on-11 sessions -- one thrown by rookie quarterback Colt McCoy and another from Seneca Wallace.
Delhomme hit Benjamin Watson with a pass over the middle for a big gain.
Josh Cribbs made a phenomenal one-handed catch, but it was overshadowed by defensive back Chris Roberson's injury. Roberson was covering Cribbs, and they both seemingly slipped and fell to the ground together. Cribbs hauled in the pass, and Roberson did not get up until he was carted off the field after a few minutes.
In a nickel package, cornerbacks Brandon McDonald and Sheldon Brown lined up on the outside. Cornerback Eric Wright played nickel back and covered the slot receiver. Later, Joe Haden replaced Sheldon Brown, McDonald stayed on the outside and Wright stayed at nickel.
Sheldon Brown intercepted a deep pass thrown by Delhomme.
Wide receiver Brian Robiskie caught a nice, long touchdown pass from Delhomme with Mike Adams covering him in the end zone. Complaints of offensive pass interference were issued by the defense.
