Browns offensive tackle Joe Thomas won’t be able to attend the 33rd annual Akron Browns Backers banquet May 21 at Tangier restaurant.
Thomas previously committed to attend the event, but a scheduling conflict will prevent him from doing so. Thomas apologized through a Browns spokesman.
Browns middle linebacker D’Qwell Jackson is still scheduled to attend the banquet.
Retired Plain Dealer and Channel 8 sports reporter Dan Coughlin will serve as master of ceremonies.
Those expected to join former coach Sam Rutigliano in the alumni contingent are Dick Ambrose, Don Cockroft, Greg Pruitt, Frank Stams, Tom Cousineau, Bob Gain, Tom Goosby, Jim Houston, Ernie Kellerman, Richard Mostardi and Dave Robinson of the Green Bay Packers.
Cockroft, Rutigliano, Ambrose and other ex-players will sign copies of Cockroft's book, The 1980 Kardiac Kids: Our Untold Stories.
The Cleveland chapter of the Pro Football Writers of America will honor Jackson and Peyton Hillis, the 2011 and 2010 players of the year, respectively, along with Dino Lucarelli Good Guy Award winners Mike Adams and Thomas. Hillis signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency and Adams with the Denver Broncos, so they will be unable to attend.
