The Cleveland police department confirmed Tuesday that it was continuing to investigate the incident early Monday morning that involved Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards.
‘‘We have been asked by the city prosecutor to gather additional information relevant to this incident,’’ Cleveland Police spokesman Lt. Thomas Stacho said. ‘‘The case is still under investigation.’’
Edwards was accused of punching promoter Edward Givens, a friend of Cavaliers superstar LeBron James, about 2:30 a.m. Monday outside the View Ultralounge & Nightclub on Prospect Avenue.
Asked about the police officers who were at the club, Stacho said, ‘‘There were off-duty guys who were working part time not in the capacity for the city of Cleveland but for the [night] club.’’
Asked if the incident involved other Browns players.
‘‘I don’t know anything about that at all.’’
