Report: Tucker was facing suspension
Friday's retirement announcement by Browns offensive lineman Ryan Tucker may have been prompted by a looming second league suspension.
According to a report by Howard Balzer of the Sports Xchange and the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, Tucker has been suspended for the first eight games of the 2010 season. Balzer reported that Dolphins nose tackle Jason Ferguson also received the same penalty.
Tucker, 34 and a 13-year veteran, spent last season on injured reserve and has played in only one game the past two years due to injuries. Tucker served a four-game NFL suspension to start the 2007 season after violating the league's steroids policy.
Balzer reported that the recent suspensions for Tucker and Ferguson also fall under the policy for performance-enhancing substances.
