2011 NFL Draft: Clemson DE Da'Quan Bowers' knee has progressed ahead of schedule, agent says
In the past few weeks, concerns have mounted about Clemson defensive end Da'Quan Bowers' surgically repaired right knee. His agent insists there's no reason for NFL teams to be alarmed.
Bowers, a top-10 prospect whom the Browns will reportedly visit and could target with the sixth overall pick, had a torn meniscus operated on in January and skipped workouts at the NFL Scouting Combine last month. He told reporters at the combine that he was "100 percent" and he simply wanted the proper time to train for his pro day March 10 at Clemson. But after his pro day was pushed back to April 1, several reports indicated his knee injury could more serious than he let on.

Browns return man Joshua Cribbs disappointed about kickoff rule change
A rule change passed Tuesday by NFL owners has frustrated Browns return man Joshua Cribbs. Kickoffs will take place at the 35-yard line instead of the 30, meaning touchbacks will likely become more frequent while returns decrease.
Cribbs discussed the new rule, plus potential workouts the Browns' players are planning for mid-April, in a phone interview Tuesday afternoon. Here is an excerpt from the question-and-answer session:

2011 NFL Draft: Clemson DE Da'Quan Bowers reportedly set to visit with Browns
Clemson defensive end Da'Quan Bowers plans to visit eight teams with top-10 picks in this year's draft, including the Browns, NationalFootballPost.com reported today.
Coincidentally, in his most recent mock draft, which was published Wednesday, ESPN NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay predicted the Browns will use the sixth overall pick to select Bowers. McShay believes the 6-foot-3, 280-pound Bowers, who has often been projected as a top-five pick, could fall to the Browns because of mounting concerns about recent surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee.

Browns coverage update
During the offseason, I'll occasionally be on assignment in realms unrelated to the NFL. For example, I'm in Columbus this week to cover the high school state wrestling tournaments. Meanwhile, Beacon Journal sports columnist Marla Ridenour is pitching in with coverage of the Browns. Check her blog and Ohio.com for the following Browns updates from the past few days:
Browns extend second-round tender to TE Evan Moore
The Browns have offered a second-round restricted free agent tender to tight end Evan Moore, a league source said today. Last week at the NFL Scouting Combine, Browns General Manager Tom Heckert said Moore would soon be under contract, so the gesture was expected.
Moore, 26, started four of the 12 games in which he appeared during the 2010 season. He had 16 catches for 322 yards and a touchdown. An injury affected Moore's hip and groin, causing him to finish this past season on injured reserve.
