On this week's Akron Beacon Journal and Ohio.com podcast, we look back at the team's narrow loss on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.
The Browns lost 30-24 in overtime, but maybe we shouldn't feel so bad about this type of loss. Beat writer Nate Ulrich explains why that is the case, and how the amount of starters lost is already working against the team.
Nate also expands heavily on the play of wide receiver Terrelle Pryor. He says the Browns need to make a push on giving him a longer contract, but will they?To read more or comment...
Browns offensive lineman Alvin Bailey was arrested early Monday morning in North Royalton and charged with operating a vehicle impaired.
"We are aware of the incident and have spoken to Alvin to express our displeasure and extreme disappointment," Browns head of football operations Sashi Brown said Monday night in a prepared statement. "This is a matter that must be taken very seriously and we will comment further at the appropriate time."
Bailey, 25, is subject to discipline from the NFL under its personal-conduct policy. The league has been made aware of the incident.
A free-agent acquisition from Seattle, Bailey started Sunday's 30-24 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins at right guard. His first start of the season was a result of John Greco moving from right guard to center in the starting lineup with Cameron Erving (bruised lung) sidelined.
Citing a police report, the Royalton Post reported Bailey was exiting his pick-up truck in a Cleveland Metroparks parking lot when an officer spotted him at 12:57 a.m. Bailey said he was letting air out of the truck's tires. To read more or comment...
Browns coach Hue Jackson said he expects rookie quarterback Cody Kessler to start Sunday on the road against Washington after making his NFL regular-season debut this past weekend in a 30-24 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins.
The only way Kessler wouldn't start is if Jackson were to receive unforeseen word quarterback Josh McCown will be back from a fractured collarbone suffered Sep. 18 in a 25-20 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. That certainly isn't expected to happen this week.
"There's no question," Jackson said Monday when asked if Kessler would start against Washington. "I think right now Cody will be our quarterback this week unless something else from the medical staff is told to me."
"I'm not talking about [the health of] Cody [being in question]. We have other quarterbacks that medically are not up right now."To read more or comment...
A Browns source said money wasn't a factor in the franchise's decision to sign Cody Parkey over the weekend instead of fellow kicker Robbie Gould.
The Miami Herald cited NFL sources who said Browns special teams coordinator Chris Tabor wanted his team to sign Gould after Patrick Murray suffered a left knee injury in Friday's walk-through practice, but the front office decided Gould was too expensive and went with Parkey instead.
"Money played no role in the decision," the Browns source said Monday morning. "It's ridiculous to think that it would."
Parkey went 3-of-6 on field goals Sunday in a 30-24 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins. He missed attempts of 41, 42 and 46 yards. The miss from 46 yards came with no time left in regulation, and the Browns would have won 27-24 if he had made it.To read more or comment...
