Dan Gilbert refers to relationship with LeBron as 'partnership,' annual meeting coming soon

By Jason Lloyd Published: October 25, 2016

INDEPENDENCE: Cavs owner Dan Gilbert expects to sit down with LeBron James in the coming days for their annual meeting. Gilbert told 850-AM WKNR that he views his relationship with James as a partnership.

“We go deep and talk about stuff and figure out where we need to go with the partnership,” Gilbert told The Really Big Show on Tuesday morning. “It’s really a partnership when you think about it.”

It’s a partnership that has come a long way considering the bitter divorce the pair went through in 2010 when James left for Miami. Gilbert has consistently referred to that as “one bad night” during all of their years together.

Kay Felder ruled out of Cavs opener with concussion

By Jason Lloyd Published: October 24, 2016

INDEPENDENCE: Kay Felder remains in the league’s concussion protocol and has been ruled out for Tuesday’s season opener against the New York Knicks. Felder’s absence leaves Iman Shumpert as the primary backup barring a trade before rosters are due into the league at 5 p.m.

Shumpert has struggled with ball-handling duties in the past, but the Cavs have few other options right now.

“We’re going to give Shumpert a look and see how he does,” Lue said. “If he’s comfortable with it and feels good when we’re doing it then we will continue to roll with Shump.”

J.R. Smith started at shooting guard in his first appearance since signing a four-year contract, although he played just 12 minutes and scored four points, including one 3-pointer. Smith will spend the last week of preseason getting his legs back.

Kyrie Irving leaves preseason game with calf tightness, will not return

By Jason Lloyd Published: October 18, 2016

COLUMBUS: Kyrie Irving left Tuesday’s preseason game against the Washington Wizards with left calf tightness and will not return, according to the team.

Irving left for good with 8:22 left in the second quarter. He was scoreless in 10 minutes Tuesday and finishes the preseason playing in three games. Coach Ty Lue is treating Tuesday’s preseason game at Ohio State as a dress rehearsal for the regular season, but now he’s doing it without his point guard.

Irving’s injury isn’t considered serious, they’re just being cautious with him since Tuesday marked the preseason finale. The Cavs open the regular season next Tuesday at home against the New York Knicks.
