CHICAGO: Andrew Bynum has been excused from the team to tend to a personal family medical matter. He is expected to rejoin the team in Washington, D.C. in time for Saturday’s game against the Washington Wizards.

Bynum is healthy, a league source said, and this has nothing to do with his comments last week when Bynum admitted to contemplating retirement.

He will fly from Chicago to Los Angeles today and will miss Wednesday’s game at the Minnesota Timberwolves and Friday’s home game against the Charlotte Bobcats.

Coach Mike Brown inserted Bynum into his starting lineup prior to Monday’s loss against the Bulls and Brown said today he will remain there on nights he plays. For now, Bynum is still limited to one game in back-to-back situations. He set season highs in minutes (21), points (11) and rebounds (6). He is averaging 6.2 points and 4.2 rebounds this season.
