Anthony Parker's injured lower back is progressing and he could return to the lineup next week, coach Byron Scott said Wednesday.
Parker has been out for nearly three weeks with a stiff lower back and Scott said last week that improvement had reached a plateau. Now he is hopeful Parker can return to practice on Friday, at least for the non-contact portions, and that he would be available either Tuesday or Wednesday for games against the Pistons and Hornets.
It's also conceivable the Cavs would simply hold him out until after the All-Star break. Following Wednesday's game against the Hornets, the Cavs are off for six days before hosting the Boston Celtics.
"He's definitely making progress," Scott said.
Parker's expected return, coupled with Kyrie Irving's return tonight, means the Cavs are on the mend. They still have no announced a timetable for Anderson Varejao, who is expected to miss at least a month with a fractured right wrist.
