Bosh will start, Irving will come off the bench at All-Star game
HOUSTON: Kyrie Irving won't get a chance to start the All-Star game after all. As expected, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra is starting Chris Bosh in place of the injured Rajon Rondo in Sunday's All-Star game.
Despite needing a point guard, Spoelstra elected to start his own power forward to give the Heat three starters in Sunday's game. LeBron James will shift from small forward to point guard.
"Was there any doubt where my loyalties are?" Spoelstra told ESPN radio.
Irving was the natural replacement when Rondo injured his knee and likely more deserving, but Spoelstra understandably stuck with his guys.
Irving said he wasn't upset by the snub.
"I talked to Coach Spoelstra before when we had our meeting. I'm perfectly OK with it," Irving said. "It's not really about starting or anything like that. It's about being part of the All-Star Game."
