By Jason Lloyd Published: June 30, 2011

Lost amid the excitement of the J.J. Hickson trade today is the fact it will be the last of its kind for a while. Perhaps a long while.

J.J. Hickson expected Cleveland Cavaliers to trade him following NBA Draft

By Jason Lloyd Published: June 30, 2011

J.J. Hickson knew after the Cavs drafted Tristan Thompson last week his time in Cleveland had ended. He just didn't know when he was leaving or where he was going. Those answers were filled in with Thursday's trade to the Sacramento Kings for small forward Omri Casspi and a future first-round pick.

Sound off on J.J. Hickson trade

By Jason Lloyd Published: June 30, 2011

I'll be back in a bit to wrap up the day with my thoughts on the J.J. Hickson trade. For now, tell me what you think. Good, bad or fair trade? Who got the better end of it?

Kyrie Irving, Tristan Thompson make first appearance for Cleveland Cavaliers

By Jason Lloyd Published: June 24, 2011

INDEPENDENCE: The Cavs don't have a starting point guard now. They have two. How they divide the playing time between Baron Davis and Kyrie Irving is just one of the many decisions coach Byron Scott will be happy to make.

"We'll let them fight it out," Scott said. "There's no expectations on Kyrie as a starter or anything like that. We expect Kyrie to come in, work hard and get better each day."

Cleveland Cavaliers draft wrap

By Jason Lloyd Published: June 24, 2011

Entering Thursday night's NBA Draft, the Cavs had depth at two positions on the roster: point guard and power forward. So it makes perfect sense that they spent the first and fourth overall picks in this draft on ... a point guard and power forward.

Cleveland Cavaliers select Duke point guard Kyrie Irving, Texas forward Tristan Thompson with top two picks in NBA Draft

By Jason Lloyd Published: June 23, 2011

The Cavaliers selected Duke point guard Kyrie Irving with the top overall pick and pulled a bit of a shocker by taking Texas freshman forward Tristan Thompson with the fourth pick in tonight's NBA Draft.

The Cavs have been high on Lithuanian center Jonas Valanciunas all along, but remained adamant they wanted to know the terms of the buyout of his European contract before drafting him. Clearly they didn't get the answers they wanted and passed, allowing Valanciunas to fall to the Raptors with the fifth pick.

Draft Day: What will the Cavaliers do?

By Jason Lloyd Published: June 23, 2011

The rebuilding of the Cleveland Cavaliers franchise begins in earnest with this evening's NBA Draft.

Where the night will get interesting is Utah's pick at No. 3. The Jazz seemed torn between Enes Kanter and Brandon Knight for weeks. A number of executives around the league expected the Jazz to settle on Knight, but the latest reports out of Salt Lake City have them taking another look at Kanter.

Cleveland Cavaliers spend Tuesday deliberating draft board

By Jason Lloyd Published: June 21, 2011

The Cavaliers have completed all of their private workouts and will spend most of Tuesday constructing their draft board. They still haven't decided between Kyrie Irving and Derrick Williams for the top overall pick, but that decision is expected within the next 24 hours.

What they decide at No. 1 will obviously have a great impact on the direction they go at No. 4. The fear at this point is if they select Williams first, point guards Kyrie Irving and Brandon Knight will go back-to-back with the next two picks. The Cavs have Baron Davis and Ramon Session under contract to play point guard, but neither is considered the long-term solution. They could get by in the short term, but will eventually have to address the issue.

Talking draft prospects for the Cleveland Cavaliers

By Jason Lloyd Published: June 20, 2011

In preparation for Thursday night's draft, I've started a series profiling the top players available. The story on Kyrie Irving is here, while the story on Brandon Knight and the rest of the point guard class is here.

The next part on Derrick Williams runs in tomorrow's paper (working on it now) and the final piece will run Wednesday. My mock draft goes up Thursday.
