Cavs defense falters in 108-104 loss to Magic
ORLANDO, FLA.: The Cavaliers defense regressed and J.J. Redick was perfect from the free-throw line in the game's final minute to give the Orlando Magic a 108-104 victory over the Cavaliers on Friday.
The Cavs led by 12 in the first half, but the Magic shot 52 percent in the second half and made 11 of 21 3-pointers. They held a slim lead for most of the fourth quarter and Redick sealed the victory at the line, making all eight of his attempts once the Cavs were forced to foul.
Dion Waiters had 25 points, Anderson Varejao had 19 points and 17 rebounds and Jeremy Pargo had 15 points for the Cavs, who were trying to win consecutive games for the first time since March 7-11 last season, a span of now 39 games.
The Cavs' defense has been the worst in the league most of the season, but showed improvement in the last two games against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Sixers, however, are one of the league's worst offensive teams. Against the Magic, many of the Cavs' same old problems resurfaced.
Jameer Nelson had 22 points and six assists and Arron Afflalo had 19 points for the Magic. The Cavs fall to 1-7 on the road and will play at Miami on Saturday.
