CHICAGO: There was a point early on Monday when the Cavaliers appeared poised to end this long, miserable drought against the Chicago Bulls. But by the end of the night, by the time the Bulls were done dismembering the Cavaliers throughout a bloody second half, that time was difficult to remember.
The Cavs lost their 11th straight to the Bulls on Monday 118-92. The Bulls set a season high for points, surpassing the old high of 115 – which was also set against the Cavs on Nov. 2.
By the time the fourth quarter began, the Bulls already had a 16-point lead. Then they really poured it on, making 12 of 14 shots in the quarter to render the final score similar to so many others in this lopsided series. The last six have been particularly brutal, with the Bulls winning by an average of 27 points.
“They just have our number,” Cavs coach Byron Scott said. “Hopefully we can close the gap in the next year or so, but right now they have our number. They feel very confident and comfortable playing against us. From a physical standpoint, they’re much more physical and aggressive than we are right now.”
The Cavs led by 10 early in the first quarter and still held a 30-22 lead after the first quarter before the Bulls remembered they were the Bulls, outscoring the Cavs 96-62 over the final three quarters.
Kyrie Irving had 25 points and six assists, but shot just 4 of 11 and watched the fourth quarter from the bench when the game was out of hand.
The Bulls led by nine with four minutes left in the third quarter, then scored nine of the quarter’s final 11 points to carry an 88-72 lead into the fourth. The Cavs missed their last four shots of the quarter and committed a turnover, which was enough margin of error for the methodical Bulls to blow the game open.
C.J. Miles had 15 points and three rebounds, but left with back spasms early in the fourth quarter and did not return. Tristan Thompson had 14 points and eight rebounds and Dion Waiters had 18 points and six rebounds in his fourth game as a reserve.
