Cavs open preseason play Dec. 16 at Detroit
Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson's first game in a Cavaliers uniform will be Dec. 16 when the Cavs play at the Detroit Pistons in the first leg of a home-and-home preseason series. The Pistons travel to Cleveland on Dec. 20 and wedged in between is the Cavs' annual Wine and Gold scrimmage, which is Dec. 18 at Quicken Loans Arena.
The lockout has forced teams to slice the preseason schedule down to a home-and-home series with a geographical neighbor, which is why the Pistons make perfect sense. The regular season will be announced at 7 p.m. Tuesday on NBA TV. The Cavs were originally scheduled to play Toronto at the Q on Dec. 26. Since the arena is already reserved for basketball that night, it makes sense for the Cavs to open at home then, even though the opponent might change.
