The Cavaliers have won the drat lottery for the second time in three years and will have the top overall pick in the June 27 NBA draft.
The Cavs cashed in on a 15.6 percent chance at the No. 1 pick after finishing the season with the third-worst record. They passed the Charlotte Bobcats and the Orlando Magic, who had a 25 percent chance at victory after finishing with the league’s worst record.
It is the third time in 10 years the Cavaliers have won the lottery and leaves the franchise in an enviable position – regardless of the strength of the draft.
Nerlens Noel is the projected top pick, but with two first-round selections and four of the top 33, about $18 million in cap space and strong motivation to improve dramatically, the Cavaliers are in control of the draft season for the second time in three years.
