Apparently USA Basketaball managing director Jerry Colangelo has gotten word that LeBron James may not be playing for Team USA this summer, reports Andrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.
James could be risking a roster spot for the 2012 Olympics on the line.
“There are no free passes to London,” Colangelo told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday night. “There are no special rules for anyone. If someone decides to pass without a legit issue, they do it with an understanding of the risk.”
Apparently James isn't the only one planning a summer sabbatical. Dwyane Wade may not be playing as well, according to the report.
Colangelo sounds as if he's holding out hope that Nike, a major Team USA sponsor, will be able to exert enough influence to get the players to training camp and the World Championships in Turkey.
“The players are intelligent and they understand that some of this whole thing brands them in the international marketplace,” he said. “And maybe they’ll make some decisions based on the fact that certainly Nike has a big impact on them in terms of what their contract may or may not say about this.”
But there's a huge difference in what Wade and James are doing this summer. While both will be handling their business with respect to free agency, James will be filming a movie with director Malcolm D. Lee this summer called Fantasy Basketball Camp and it doesn't sound as if he has a cameo.
If his part is as substantial as believed he's gonna be logging significant time on a movie set.
